City commissioners to meet at 5 p.m.

ENID, Okla. — Enid city commissioners will discuss a realignment of the parks and public works department during their study session Tuesday night.

They also will discuss the hotel tax ordinance and an ordinance concerning prostitution and public urination. Those discussions are scheduled for the study session, which begins at 5 p.m. in the lower level conference room of the city administration building, 401 W. Garriott.

Parks and public works currently is one department.

During the regular meeting, commissioners will discuss change orders for Key Construction on the Enid Event Center contract. There have been seven change orders approved for Event Center construction, totaling $982,742. The latest is for $58,114 for two 400-amp show power panel boxes with connectors and one 800-amp show power panel box with connectors.

If it is approved, it would push the contract amount to $18,427,186, with a completion date of May 31. The original contract was $17,444,444.

In other business, commissioners will consider:

• An ordinance banning motorized vehicles in parks and on the trail system. Bicycles still will be allowed on the trail system. There also will be an exemption for mobility devices.

• An ordinance to allow Enid Police Department the discretion to cite and release shoplifters, rather than arrest them, if the items stolen were less than $500 in value and there are no circumstances that impact the incident.

• Making the intersection of 10th and Maine a four-way stop. Currently, only traffic on 10th must stop.

In February, a 55-year-old woman was killed in an accident at the intersection, and a 16-year-old boy was charged with first-degree manslaughter.

Police Chief Brian O’Rourke will make the presentation. He said adding the signs will allow further control of the intersection to reduce accidents.

The regular meeting will be 6:30 p.m. in commission chambers at the city administration building.
