Alcohol non-compliance found at 4 businesses during Dec. 6 checks

ENID, Okla. — Four people were cited by Garfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies last week during alcohol compliance checks.

Deputy Dariel Momsen, with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, and volunteers from the Garfield County Alcohol and Drug Coalition conducted low-point beer compliance checks Dec. 6 at 22 locations throughout the county.

Four locations were found to be non-compliant, after selling to volunteers ages 18 to 20.

Those cited include:

• Clinton Olmstead of Petes #2 in Enid.

• Tammy Grantz of Last Honky Tonk in Enid. She is not the former director of PreventionWorkz.

• David Fletcher of Gas N Go in Enid.

• Billie Adamson of Billy Bobs in Garber.

“The reduction of underage drinking and the damage it causes is one of the primary goals of the Garfield County Alcohol and Drug Coalition,” said Sean Byrne, executive director of PreventionWorkz. “There are several places underage individuals can get alcohol: homes, friends, parties or retail establishments. This is just one of several strategies that are being employed to address the issue.”

Byrne commended those stores that did not sell to volunteers last week.

“Eighty-two percent of the retailers visited did exactly what they were supposed to do,” he said. “I think, while it’s not perfect, it’s an indication that most people in this county are trying to do the right thing.

“Local law enforcement is saving lives every time they do these compliance checks, by reducing the likelihood that a young person will be able to purchase alcohol.”

PreventionWorkz, through funding from Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and in partnership with the ABLE Commission, offers free retailer beverage server training to retailers and restaurants. Staff training can be scheduled by calling (580) 234-1046.
