Public urged to get animals licensed, vaccinated at April 14 clinic

Pet owners can get their pets vaccinated and licensed at a discounted price next week during the annual pet clinic.

Enid Police Department, Enid Animal Control and local veterinarians will conduct their annual vaccination clinic at the Garfield County Expo Center, South Chisholm Trail Pavilion Area, 111 W. Purdue, April 14 from noon to 5 p.m.

The clinic is open to the public and will include pet vaccinations for rabies and the issuance of pet licenses as required by local ordinance. The clinic entrance will be on the south side of the Chisholm Trail (South) Pavilion Area.

Parking and access to the area can be made off Washington, Purdue or Oxford streets. There is no need for reservations.

The public is encouraged to participate in the event, as special arrangements have been made to receive your animal’s annual rabies vaccination and city pet license for a reduced fee of $10 per pet, Animal Control Supervisor Allen Elder said. Payment for the fee can be made in cash or by personal check.

“This is quite a savings to pet owners, who would normally take their pets to clinic and then a trip to the police station to get them registered,” Elder said.

License is required for every dog, cat or pot-bellied pig over the age of 6 months. Licenses are issued on a yearly basis and expire at the end of the calendar year, Dec. 31. By registering the animals, it will allow for identification of the owner should the pet become lost or stolen. Fine and court costs are $159 for failing to register a pet.

Animal Control officers and local veterinarian will be on hand to administer the vaccines and issue city pet licenses. They also will be available to answer general questions concerning the health of animals, and local ordinances concerning pet care and owner responsibilities.
