Walk This Way campaign kicks off Sunday afternoon

ENID, Okla. — Walkers and runners once again will take to the trails and pathways for this year’s Walk This Way campaign.

The formal kickoff for the eight-week fitness drive will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot outside Hobby Lobby, 610 S. Cleveland. In case of rain, the kickoff will be at Denny Price Family YMCA.

“We will have registration, health screenings, water bottles, other giveaways, the Imagination Playground for kids and a raffle drawing for walking on the trail,” said Maggie Jackson, health educator at Garfield County Health Department.

The goal is for participants to walk at a sustained aerobic pace for 30 minutes, five times a week, for eight weeks, Jackson said. Minutes spent running, biking, doing aerobics and swimming count as well.

The free program offers group running and walking Tuesday and Thursday evenings; free T-shirts for participants who turn in their minutes after eight weeks; prize drawings, including a $500 grand prize drawing for completing 1,200 minutes; and extra prizes for school and under-18 teams.

Water bottles will be given at the kickoff as long as supplies last.

Participants must live in Garfield County to be eligible for prizes. Enid Health Planning Committee members and their immediate families are not eligible for prizes.

Teams of up to five members should register and submit minutes individually with their team name in the blank. Each team member must have more than 1,200 minutes to be eligible for prizes.

Minute logs can be submitted online throughout the eight weeks or by mail at the end of the eight weeks.

For complete program guidelines, go to healthy garfieldcounty.org/wtw-guidelines.html. A link on the page will redirect viewers to the registration form where they can sign up through midnight May 24 if they miss the kickoff event.
