Valentines event set

ENID, Okla. — Youth and Family Services of North Central Oklahoma will host its second annual Valentine’s Day Gala this year.

Packages for the fundraiser include a date night for $75 for a single and $120 for a couple. Tables seating up to eight people also are available for $500. The event is black-tie optional, and all proceeds benefit Youth and Family Services emergency youth shelter.

The night includes dinner, dancing, a silent auction and drinks at Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse, 200 E. Maple.

Valentine's Day Gala ticket reservation form

The night begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Those wanting to attend are encouraged to make reservations as early as possible, as space is limited. Ticket purchases may be tax deductible, as Youth and Family Services of North Central Oklahoma is a 501(c)(3).

“It was really fun last year,” said Shelby Hall, director of development and event organizer. “We had a photo booth brought in, we had a DJ and dancing.”

Hall said about 120 people attended last year’s event, and she expects a similar turnout this year.

“We’re expecting those tickets to go fast though,” Hall said. “People should call and reserve them quickly.”

Hall said the emergency youth shelter houses abused and neglected kids taken from their homes, or those who have run away from such homes.

The kids who stay at the shelter receive food, counseling, mentoring, tutoring and other services provided by Youth and Family Services.

“The average stay is about 14 days, but we’ve had kids stay much longer than that,” she said. “We’re averaging about 10 to 11 kids a day. It’s growing significantly.”

The Nights of Shelter campaign has raised money to shelter a child for more than 1,000 nights, but more is needed.

“We want to say ‘thank you’ to all of our Nights of Shelter donors,” Hall said. “With these donations, we’ll be able to provide shelter for 1,116 nights for kids.”

Payments for tickets can be made by printing a reservation form and including cash or check, or may be made online via PayPal. Those with questions can contact Youth and Family Services of North Central Oklahoma at (580) 233-7220.
