Covington Christmas services set

Church

The children’s Christmas program at 8:45 Sunday morning at St. John’s Lutheran Church. A candlelight worship service is 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. A worship service with communion will be held at 8:45 Christmas morning, Dec. 25.

Covington United Methodist Church will have a Christmas Eve candlelight service with Communion at 7:30 p.m.

Lucien United Methodist Church will have its Christmas Eve candlelight Communion service at 5:30 p.m.

The 5th Sunday Sing will be 2 p.m. Dec. 30, at the Christian Church.

School

Covington-Douglas school is out for Christmas Break through Jan. 3.

Remember to vote in the Jan. 8 school bond election. All regular voting precincts will be open. Proposed bond resolution 1 is a building bond for $730,000 to install new windows and exterior doors across campus, as well as renovate and remodel restrooms. Proposed bond resolution 2 is a transportation bond for $180,000 to purchase two new route buses.

Community

Santa visited Covington Dec. 15 at the Covington Fire Station, greeting the many children and passing out candy. Parker Dickson and Addsyen Thayer each won $25 in the 1-6 age group. Cooper Carter and Chris Evetts each won $50 in the 7-12 age group, and Andrew Staples and Blake Morris each won $75 in the 13-18 age group.

Twenty turkeys were given out to the following winners: Brian Yerran, Ashley Sinnett, Raymond Kaiser, Sherri Staples, Mary Wyssman, Steve Johnson, Kathy Belcher, Spencer Robinson, Dorothy Murphy, Danniel Evans, Rhonda Lickliter, Kaesy Thayer, Eileen Olmstead, A.J. Phillips, David Evetts, Ruby Schoeling, James Postier, Jodene Carter, Loretta Bell, Linda Postier.

Covington Lions Club and American Legion Post 190 sponsored the Christmas festivities. Refreshments were served to everyone.

Covington First Bank and Trust held its Christmas dinner Dec. 12 at the Covington Fire Station. A large group of bank customers attended, including many of the staff from the Perry First Bank and Trust, along with some bank directors. Nancy Courtney and Sharon Smith each won a poinsettia, Eldon Diver won a gift card from Curb Side Grill, and Melvin Carter won a tool set.
