ENID, Okla. —
Woodring Wall of Honor and Veteran’s Park in Enid is one of 250 finalists in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program.
Elaine Johns, said the program will award vehicles to 100 non-profits based on votes from the public beginning Oct. 1. Each finalist has been given a day when they will be voted on. They are the only Oklahoma non-profit in competition this year. The top 50 will be showcased on Toyota’s Facebook page. Visitors to the page will receive two votes per day to select two separate winning organizations they feel are most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle.
“The Woodring Wall of Honor will be one of five organizations highlighted for voting on Oct. 16. Of those five organizations, the top two will win a car, and the remaining three will receive a $1,000 check,” Johns said.
Initially, there were 2,500 applications and Toyota narrowed the list to 250. Those will be voted on each day for 50 days, beginning Oct. 1. A different five will be highlighted each day. The Vietnam Wall and Veteran’s Park will be listed Oct. 16 only. The winner will know if they are to receive a check within two days, she said.
Johns urged area residents and Oklahomans to support the Wall of Honor in the attempt for the new Toyota Highlander. She said when the educational center is built, there will be a number of opportunities to use the vehicle.
“We will be making presentations and transporting educational materials regarding the Veteran’s Park and Vietnam Memorial Wall. There won’t be another Vietnam Memorial Wall within a 250-mile radius of our community. We will transport displays, memorabilia and volunteers to schools, veteran’s organizations and social service organizations for presentations, Johns said.
“We are already being recognized nationally by Vietnam veterans organizations,” she said.
The Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park Inc. is a non-profit organization hosting a living memorial to veterans, past and present. The park is located at Woodring Regional Airport in Enid.
