Semi runs stop sign, 2 die at Kingfisher County intersection

Two people were killed early Thursday in Kingfisher County when the pickup they were in hit a semi that ran a stop sign, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Richard Henry Uhlenhopp, 46, of Kingfisher, and Sara A. Francisco, 35, of Crescent, were killed in the accident, which happened at 2:47 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of two county roads seven miles east and five miles south of Kingfisher.

According to an OHP report, Uhlenhopp was driving a 2012 Ford pickup heading north on a county road, when it collided with a 2006 Mack tractor-trailer driven by Jeffrey Douglas Copeland, 48, of Kingfisher. Copeland was heading west and failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the report.

Copeland refused treatment at the scene, according to the report, which said he was wearing a seat belt, while Uhlenhopp and Francisco were not.
