Enid Public Schools to host open house

ENID, Okla. — Enid Public Schools students and their families are invited to kick off the school year Monday night at open house events across the district.

The open house schedule includes middle school and high school sites from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and elementary schools from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Students and their families will be given the opportunity to meet their teachers, talk with their principals and tour their buildings. Parents can sign-up to volunteer, and they will receive valuable information about the upcoming school year.

"Open house gives students an opportunity, to not only see their classrooms, but also to meet their teachers and visit with classmates," said Human Resources & Communications Director Amber Graham Fitzgerald. "On the first day of school, they feel more comfortable and relaxed, and they're ready to learn when the bell rings. It’s a great way to start the school year."

Many schools will host booths from their respective PTA organizations, as well as other community groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts. At all school sites, visitors will be able to see facility projects made possible through the 2010 bond issue.

In addition to traditional open house, Enid High School invites parents, alumni and community members to tour two classrooms recently renovated in honor of former EHS educators. Thanks to generous donations from the EHS Alumni Association and its members, the rooms have been upgraded to offer first-class academic accommodations for students, including warm, quality wood wainscoting reminiscent of the classroom known by many alumni members as the "senior English room."

The rooms are dedicated to two former and beloved EHS educators: Ruth Scott, who taught English, and Mary Adams, who taught math. A room was previously completed in honor of former history teacher Ray Farrant.

 EPS classes begin Tuesday.
