Drowsy-driving crash injures 1

ENID, Okla. — A Covington man was injured in an accident Monday after he fell asleep and his vehicle overturned.

Donald Backhaus, 48, was traveling westbound at about 4:06 p.m. Monday on U.S. 60 in Osage County when he fell asleep, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Report. The 2005 orange-and-white Peterbilt departed the roadway to the right and overturned onto its passenger side.

Backhaus was pinned for 40 minutes before being freed by Ponca City Fire Department, according to the report.

Backhaus sustained head, internal trunk and leg injuries, according to the report. He was taken by Eagle Med to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, where he was admitted in stable condition.
