Agrifest today, tomorrow at Expo Center

ENID, Okla. — In its 18th year, the two-day KNID Agrifest kicks off at 9 a.m. today

“That’s a long time. A long-running show,” said KNID General Manager Sandy Daniels.

Over the next two days, she expects 40,000 people to make it through the Chisholm Trail Expo Center, attending seminars, shopping for new products from more than 300 vendors and perusing the latest in agriculture implements.

“They come from all over — as far as Wyoming. And we have a lot of vendors from far away, too,” Daniels said.

The Expo Center opens at 9 a.m. each morning. The event goes until 6 p.m. today and 5 p.m. Saturday.

On both days, there will be exhibitions at 3 p.m. from Scott Daily, a noted starter and trainer.

“Those are very popular,” she said.

The seminars include a presentation from U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas’ field office, lessons on cattle herd replenishment and how the weather impacts the Oklahoma cattle industry.

There also are presentations from Advanta, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the OSU Extension office and others.

“This year we have more (seminars) than usual,” Daniels said.

Agrifest isn’t just for farmers and ranchers, though.

“We have a Crafter’s Alley, also,” said Daniels. “And, there are a lot of booths that have things like homemade salsa, food and crafts, clothing. There’s so many different types of vendors. It’s not just agriculture.”

This year’s preparation for the two-day event went a little easier. Daniels said the relatively dry weather over the past few days has worked in the event’s favor.

“Last year they were pulling in with mud, so it was kind of hard for them to get the equipment clean,” she said. It’s gone very smooth. And there’s no snow or ice.

“It doesn’t hold the farmers back, but it makes the move-in a lot easier.”
