2.8 earthquake is centered in western Garfield County

ENID, Okla. — A 2.8 magnitude earthquake was reported at 1:24 p.m. Tuesday in western Garfield County.

The quake was centered along the Garfield-Major County line, between Lahoma and Drummond. U.S. Geological Survey reported it was 11 miles west-southwest of Enid and 11 miles west-northwest of Waukomis.

It was measured at a depth of 3.1 miles.

It was the second earthquake recorded in as many days this week in northwest Oklahoma.

A 2.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded Monday about 12 miles south-southeast of Alva. It also was measured at a depth of 3.1 miles.

Earthquakes with magnitudes of 2.5 to 3 are the smallest generally felt by people, according to U.S. Geological Survey.
