EPS approves harassment policy

ENID, Okla. — A new harassment policy approved by Enid Public Schools Board of Education won’t send any kindergartners home for kissing other students.

Board member Willa Jo Fowler asked Superintendent Shawn Hime if the new policy the board was asked to approve would do the same as a policy she recently read about.

“No, ma’am,” Hime said. “I hate to say it, but when I was in kindergarten, I played a game called Postman, and we don’t let them do that either, but we try to keep common sense.”

In other matters Monday night, the board approved a number of routine fundraising requests; a contract with Lifetouch National School Studios for school portraits for Monroe and Taft Elementary Schools; a contract with Remember Me Inc. for school yearbooks for Monroe Elementary School; a transfer from the elementary activity fund to the district general fund to correct a depositing error; a transfer from the Glenwood, Hayes and Taft accounts of the elementary activity fund to the district general fund for reimbursement of after-school care payroll expenses; a transfer from the Enid High School activity fund to the district general fund to reimburse for soccer official payroll costs; another transfer within the EHS activity fund; and deemed several outdated computers, old desks and old library books as surplus property for disposal.

Members approved several routine fund encumbrances and discussed, then voted, to approve the financial report.

They approved a change order to the contract with Lonestar Industries, adding 5,000 square feet of tuckpoint work to McKinley Elementary School at a cost of $27,500.

They also approved a change order to the contract with Westfahl Construction for renovations to Lincoln Academy. The changes decrease the contract price by $33,995.

Also approved was the school calendar for 2014-15.
