Enid man arrested for alleged robbery at Enid convenience store

ENID, Okla. — Police arrested a 37-year-old Enid man Wednesday night after the man attempted to steal a 12-pack of beer from a convenience store.

Enid Police Department received a call at 9:10 p.m. from the owner of Grand Central Station, 2305 N. Grand, reporting an unwanted guest in the store.

The man said his son, who was working at the store, had called him reporting some people in the store harassing him, Sgt. Richard Sutton said. The man told a dispatcher the people in the store were attempting to steal items from the store.

Dispatchers attempted to contact the store several times to speak with the clerk, but received no answer. Officers were sent to the store code three, with emergency lights and sirens active.

The clerk later told officers a man, identified as Robert Ty White, grabbed a 12-pack of bottled beer, brought it to the counter, then scribbled something on a piece of paper, throwing it at the clerk, and said “Here’s your payment,”  Sutton said.

The clerk told White he would have to pay for the beer and pulled the beer toward him. White then told the clerk he gets his beer for free, Sutton said. The clerk told White he would have to pay for the beer and then placed it behind the counter.

White then threatened the clerk, making a statement to the effect he was “going to fill him full of holes,” Sutton said. The clerk said as the man came around the counter his fists were clenched. The clerk picked up a stool and struck White in the face, possibly breaking White’s nose, Sutton said.

The clerk pulled White from behind the counter into an aisle of the store, where officers later found an open folding knife and a cell phone on the floor. Sutton said White “appeared intoxicated” when officers arrived on scene.

White was placed under arrest and treated at the scene by Life EMS before being transported to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for further treatment. White was taken to Garfield County Detention Facility and booked on a complaint of robbery.
