Enid man charged with outraging public decency

ENID, Okla. — An Enid man was charged this week with outraging public decency stemming from an incident in April.

Thomas John Gaul was arraigned Thursday on the misdemeanor charge, which is punishable by up to a year in prison and/or a fine of up to $500.

Gaul also had an application to revoke a suspended sentence filed in a 2011 drug case in which he pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, Enid Police Department officers responded at 10:57 a.m. April 14, 2013, to Northwest Motors, 1415 N. Grand, for a person attempting to enter the business.

Officer Mike Evans found Gaul prior to other officers arriving on the west side of North Grand.

Officer Jeff Roche spoke with the man, who called police and he said he was working at the business that day, which was a Sunday.

The man told police Gaul ran from the building through an open bay door on the south side of the building. Roche was told the man was not wearing pants and his buttocks were exposed, according to the affidavit. Gaul fell into a ditch south of the building and ran westbound across Grand Street.

The man was able to positively identify Gaul as the man he saw running from the business.

Evans told Roche that while speaking with Gaul, it was determined Gaul was masturbating inside the open bay door, according to the affidavit.

Gaul is being held in lieu of $500 bond on the misdemeanor charge and $10,000 bond on the application to revoke suspended sentence. He was ordered to return to court Jan. 13 for a bond appearance.
