Enid to seek firefighter applications

The city of Enid will begin taking applications for probationary firefighters Monday.

Fire Marshal Ken Helms said Enid Fire Department is seeking any applicants who are interested in joining the department.

“We want anyone interested in a career in fire prevention to come and check us out,” he said. “We need people of good character and integrity.”

The job has an annual base pay of $30,480.38 and includes benefits such as incentive and merit pay, paid vacation and medical and dental insurance. Firefighters work an average of 10 24-hour shifts per month.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by Jan. 23 and no older than 45 by date of employment. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet physical and mental requirements of the Oklahoma Firefighter’s Pension and Re-tirement Board.

“It’s an opportunity to serve the community and make a difference and earn an income and provide for your family at the same time,” Helms said.

Applications will be available Monday at the city of Enid Human Resources Department, 401 W. Garriott, or online at www.enid.org. The closing date for applications is Jan. 23

Applicants must pass a physical agility test, a written exam, polygraph examination and background investigation.

Helms said no positions within the department are now open, but applicants who meet requirements and are approved by the Civil Service Commission would be added to a list from which the department could hire from the next two years.
