Authorities were searching Thursday night for a suspect who apparently shot a man along U.S. 412 west of Enid.
Garfield County Undersheriff Jerry Niles said the victim told authorities he stopped along the highway about 8:45 p.m. near Meno in Major County to help a man in a black car along the side of the road. As the victim approached the car, the unknown assailant opened fire, Niles said, hitting the victim in the chest. The suspect sped off west on U.S. 412.
The wounded man then drove his pickup to the Ampride convenience store in Meno, where he was found by authorities.
Niles said the Major County Sheriff’s Office deputies did not have a description of the suspect, other than he was driving a black car. Authorities set up a perimeter on the western side of Garfield County from Drummond to Carrier.
The condition of the wounded man was not known at press time.
