Home and School Club meets for luncheon

Home and School Club met Dec. 2 at United Methodist Church for a covered dish luncheon and gift exchange. Secret pals were revealed. Maidee LeForce received the hostess gift. The club is buying Christmas gifts for two children from the angel tree at First Bank and Trust.

Secret pal names were drawn for the coming year. Members present were Lovella Pattrick, Maidee LeForce, Irene Reinhardt, Sherry Brooks, Christina Rink, Sharoll Kay Kegin and Pat Powers. Special guests were George Kegin, Herb Bolz and Dick Powers. Food items were brought for the local food pantry.

Santa Claus will be in Covington Saturday at the fire station.

A community gathering will begin at 6 p.m. Contests will be held for the children, with prizes being given for the best-dressed individual, best-dressed animal, best-decorated four-wheeler and best-decorated two-wheeler. Santa will hand out candy to the children. Refreshments will be available.

A turkey drawing will be held. Boxes have been set up in local businesses for people to drop their name in for the drawing. A Christmas parade will not be held this year.

Gifts for the angel tree at First Bank and Trust are due by Tuesday.



School

Christmas break for Covington-Douglas Public Schools will be Dec. 22-Jan. 2.

Covington-Douglas basketball teams will play Tuesday at Aline-Cleo Springs. The teams will host Oklahoma Bible Academy Friday. All games will start at 6:30 p.m.

FFA will have a lock-in Friday and Saturday.

Covington-Douglas Broad of Education met Dec. 4.

The board voted to put out bids for 600-seat football bleachers. The board also voted to park the bus on the northwest corner of gym and allow no parking along the north side of the gym during school hours to ensure safety to students.

Members voted to buy a dishwater and install carpet at the superintendent’s house. The board voted to accept highest bid of $705 for a surplus bus.



Church

The Christmas message, “Hope Has Hands,” will be presented at 8:45 a.m. Sunday during worship service at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
