Jeffries wins $5,000 Candy Cane Cash grand prize

The Oklahoma wind was sweeping across David Allen Memorial Ballpark Saturday morning, but that didn’t stop more than 2,000 Candy Cane Cash ticket holders from attending the annual drawing at 9 a.m.

The thermometer on the field read 50 degrees, but the wind-chill was undoubtedly colder than that as men, women and children bundled up, tickets in gloved hands, hoping to hear their number called.

“We do this to help keep dollars, retail dollars in northwest Oklahoma,” said Jon Blankenship, president and CEO of Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce.



The annual Candy Cane Cash giveaway is a promotion of Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce and Enid News & Eagle.

Five prizes were given away to five lucky winners Saturday. Two $500 prizes, two $1,000 prizes and one grand prize of $5,000.

There were over 200,000 tickets in the hopper according to Debbi Knoll, News and Eagle advertising director.

That is about half as many recorded tickets as last year but still represents $2 million spent in Enid.

Winning the $500 prizes were Kelly Craparotta, who got her tickets from Furniture Gallery, and DeAnn Hale, who got her tickets from Debbie’s Boutique and Superlube.



Winning the $1,000 prizes were Herman Icke, whose winning ticket came from Stuart Pontiac, and Floy Dean Kratzer, who received her tickets from shopping at United Supermarket.

The $5,000 grand prize was a Moto Photo ticket held by Amy Jeffries.

There was no screaming for joy from Jeffries, who seemed to be a bit in shock. She did say she was going to use the money for “Christmas shopping and to pay off a credit card.”
