Christmas bazaar starts Thursday in Covington

Tri-County Senior Center will host its annual Christmas bazaar and bake sale 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Amanda Gardner, former student at Covington-Douglas and a 2006 graduate of Augusta (Kan.) High School, is a member of the University of Oklahoma rowing team. She is the daughter of Bryan and Jennifer Gardner, formerly of Covington, and the granddaughter of Louis and Pat Schweer, of Covington.



School



Covington-Douglas basketball teams will play at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Drummond. The teams will play in the Pond Creek-Hunter basketball tournament, which starts Monday.

FCCLA and student council annual winter ball is Saturday.

The seventh- and eighth-grade academic teams will compete in the district tournament at 1 p.m. Friday in Drummond. They also will host a meet Dec. 10.



Church



Journey youth group, along with youth sponsor Diana Millsap, of Covington First Baptist Church, went to Our Daily Bread recently and packed up groceries. The group then handed out sacks of food in the food line.

The church will have its holiday dinner at noon Sunday.

First Baptist youths will present the children’s Christmas program at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 14 during the worship service.

Fifth Sunday Sing was Nov. 30 at Covington Christian Church. Carol Kegin, George Kegin and Boyd Cline sang special numbers, and everyone participated in congregational singing.

First Baptist Church will host the next Fifth Sunday Sing March 29.

St. John’s Lutheran Church children’s Christmas program will be during the 8:45 p.m. worship service Dec. 14.

St. John’s Lutheran Praise Singers will present the Christmas cantata “Hope Has Hands” at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 21.
