Vance Air Force Base will help celebrate Oklahoma’s 100th birthday with a Centennial Cele-bration flyover in Guthrie today.
Four T-38C jets from Vance will execute the flyover at 11:30 a.m. The jets will fly 1.5 miles west to east over Oklahoma Street, pulling up over the historic Scottish Rite Temple and kicking off the 5,000-person centennial parade. The T-38s are assigned to the 25th Flying Training Squadron of Vance’s 71st Flying Training Wing.
The lead plane will be piloted by Capt. Sonny Hignite and 1st Lt. Thomas Wnetzrak. 1st Lt. Nathaniel Lightfoot will pilot the second plane. The pilot of the third will be Capt. Dan Christ-man. The fourth plane will be piloted by Capt. Erik Gratteau.
The parade will mirror one held in 1907 and retrace the route from Scottish Rite Temple to Mineral Wells Park. The parade will include marching bands from the University of Oklaho-ma, Oklahoma State University, Langston University and the University of Central Oklahoma, with the Oklahoma Centennial All-Star Band. There will be as many as 40 bands as well as many floats and organizations.
