NWOSU students slated to perform play



Several Northwestern Oklahoma State University students from the area will participate in the university’s fine arts department’s performance of “The Wizard of Oz in the Wild West” beginning Thursday and running through Saturday in Alva.

Alishia Holdeman, of Fairview, will play Dorothy and Stuart Campbell, of Woodward, will play Scarecrow.

Other area students in the cast include Ashley Pittman and Jackie Prim, both of Kingfisher, and Strick Reyes, of Waynoka.

The students will perform Thursday and Friday for local and area elementary schools at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Saturday performance is open to the public and is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Herod Hall Auditorium on the university campus in Alva. Admission is $1.



Street closed beginning Friday



North 16th Street will be closed between Maple and Elm beginning on Friday.

Luckinbill will be repairing a manhole in the street, and the work will take approximately two weeks to complete.



Veterans Day reception to be held today



A come-and-go reception for veterans will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Northern Oklahoma College Enid.

The special Veterans Day event will be in the Montgomery Hall ballroom. Light reception fare will be provided at no cost to attendees, courtesy of NOC, and patriotic lapel pins will be given away while the supply lasts.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event. Veterans attending will receive certificates of appreciation for their military service.

A Wall of Honor is being established on the NOC Web site to recognize veterans of the NOC community. Any NOC students, employees, alumni or community residents who served in the armed forces can be listed. Veterans Day breakfast slated for today



American Legion will have a Veterans Day breakfast 7-10:30 a.m. today.

All veterans and their families are welcome. The breakfast will be at the Legion building, 121 W. Oak. The menu will feature scrambled eggs, waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee and juice.

Donations will be accepted at the door.



2 blood drives to be held this week



Oklahoma Blood Institute will have a couple of blood drives coming in the next few days.

The bloodmobile will be at Atwoods, 5418 W. Garriott 1:30-4:30 p.m. Friday. For information or to make an appointment, call Marty Lavicky at 233-3700.

The first 25 donors at the Sears blood drive will receive a free gift.

All donors at both drives will receive their choice of a free University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University blood donor T-shirt, along with free health screenings and Members for Life points to redeem at OBI’s online store.

Healthy, Enid-area residents, ages 17 and older, are eligible.



K-H Drama club to present comedies



Kremlin-Hillsdale Drama Club will present the one-act comedies “Jack vs. Jill” by Dustin Robert Blakeman and “Check, Please” by Jonathan Rand on Nov. 19 and 20.

The plays will be 7 p.m. both days. Tickets are $3 for students and $4 for adults. Both shows will be presented each night with an intermission between shows. The performances will be on the high school stage in the old gym.

Kremlin-Hillsdale Drama Club students are in grades 8-12.



Republican women’s club to meet Friday



Garfield County Republican Women’s Club will meet Friday at the YWCA. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m.

The meeting will begin at noon with election of 2010 officers on the agenda.

Following the business meeting, guest speaker will be Rep. John Wright, a candidate for lieutenant governor. There also will be a bake sale at the meeting. Members are asked to bring a homemade baked good for this sale.

The meeting is open to all current or prospective men and women members. Call 233-4099 for lunch reservations or for information.



Chili, stew supper slated Saturday



Pioneer Pleasant Vale Lions Club will have a chili and stew supper Saturday at the Family Life Center of Calvary Baptist Church, 8th and Maine.

Serving will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m.

Dessert and beverage also are included in the ticket price. Tickets are $5 per person.

Proceeds from the event will be used for community support. Pioneer Pleasant Vale Lions Club is active within the Pioneer Public Schools district, but many other local projects are funded by the Lions projects. Sight conservation and eye-glasses are one of the main items of interest of Lions.

Other organizations assisted by Lions include Blue Star Mothers, who purchase items to be sent to service personnel overseas, Horn of Plenty, American Cancer Society and the YMCA. Many other groups receive donations of funds or volunteer time.



Hope Outreach to host open house



Hope Outreach Ministries will have its “Hope for the Holidays” open house Saturday.

The event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the thrift store, 215 S. Van Buren.

Live entertainment and free popcorn will be provided. Hourly cash and prize drawings will be held.
