2 suspects arraigned in driveby shootings

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

Two women suspected in a pair of driveby shootings Sunday were arraigned Friday in Garfield County District Court.

Jamesse S. Thompson and Tamika J. Johnson appeared before Special District Judge Paul Woodward via video from Garfield County Detention Fa-cility.

Thompson, 19, of Enid, was charged with a count of use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon, a felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

Johns-on, 21, of Spencer, was charg-ed with a felony count of as-sault with a dangerous weapon, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Attorney David Henneke entered a special appearance in both women’s cases and requested a lower bond than the $250,000 that had been set prior to charges being filed.

During her arraignment, Thompson told the judge she wanted to ask for a bond reduction and stated: “Your honor, I am innocent.”

Henneke told the court Thompson was working toward her GED and was employed in Enid. He said the woman was not a flight risk, and the bond set earlier was done so when more serious charges were being considered.

Woodward set Thompson’s bond at $50,000, despite a request from the prosecution.

Johnson, who works in Oklahoma City and is attending an online university, also requested a reduced bond.

Henneke told the court Johnson had no prior record, but suggested a condition of her bond be she remain away from the alleged victims in the case. Woodward set her bond at $50,000. Both women were ordered to return to court Dec. 8 for a bond appearance.

According to affidavit filed in the case, three people who left a dance on West Willow about 12:05 a.m. Sunday were driving toward the 4100 block of LaMesa Drive when a woman in the vehicle received a call saying Thompson and others were following them from the dance.

Those in the vehicle continued driving and when they reached the 4100 block of LaMesa Drive, Thompson fired three to four shots from her car, according to the affidavit. The three people in the vehicle all identified Thompson as the shooter.

About 1:09 a.m. Sunday, Enid police responded to another shooting at 6th and Illinois.

The people in the vehicle who had been shot at earlier told police they were driving to a relative’s house to make a police report of the earlier shooting when they saw the shooter’s car at 6th and Illinois. They said they stopped to get the tag number of the car.

A man told police Johnson arrived in another vehicle at 6th and Illinois and fired several shots toward his vehicle and his passengers. Both passengers told police Johnson fired multiple shots at the truck they were in, according to the affidavit.

Tuesday, police stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of South 6th. Police arrested Thompson for driving without a license and Johnson on outstanding bench warrants.

According to the affidavit, Thompson denied any involvement with either of the shootings Sunday during an interview with police. Thompson said she was at the dance but left and spent the night with her boyfriend at a motel.
