Fall back one hour early Sunday

By Kasey Fowler, Staff Writer

Daylight-saving time comes to an end at 2 a.m. Sunday, so residents need to remember to fall back one hour.

Enid Fire Marshal Ken-neth Helms said it also is a good time to check smoke detectors in the home.

“We recommend that you change your batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year unless they are lithium batteries,” Helms said. “When we spring forward or fall back is a good time to help remember to change the batteries.”

Helms also recommends testing smoke alarms every month to make sure they still are working.

“Just go by and push the button to make sure it is still working,” he said.

City codes require smoke alarms be placed on every level of a house.

“The locally adopted codes require a smoke detector in each sleeping area and in the exit path from sleeping areas,” Helms said.

Besides putting the detectors in these areas, he said, they need to be placed according to directions.

“Follow the manufacture’s instructions on where and how to install the fire detectors,” Helms said.
