Quiz bowl team on top

Drummond High School quiz bowl team has completed all of its conference games. Drummond won all of the conference games in the Skeltur Conference and has defeated Garber, Covington, Pioneer, Cimarron, Kremlin, Pond Creek-Hunter and Wakita during three meets.  Drummond also won Skeltur Tournament at Waukomis. 

Drummond’s team recently participated in the District OSSAA Tournament held at Cimarron. Drummond beat Cimarron and Waukomis. William Neiswanger, Mitchell Earl, captain Evan Mooney, Brian Masters, Darcy Tuohy, Jacob Singleton and Tyler Messall participated. They averaged 315 points per game. This score will be used to seed the regional tournament, which will be held Nov. 14 at Drummond. 

The next tournament will be Saturday at Kremlin. Drummond will be taking two teams to the Kremlin Invitational. Their record stands at 25-2 with both losses to Edmond Santa Fe.

Drummond sixth- through ninth-grade scholastic team participated at its first scholastic contest Oct. 20 at Fairview. Those placing at the meet were Kaitlyn Lemley, third in social studies; Miles Shaddy, third in current events; and Austin Davis, third in humanities. Also scoring points for the team were Clay Downing and Conner Solomon. Lemley, Shaddy and Davis will compete in the state contest in April at Redlands Community College.

On Oct. 6, four members of Drummond FCCLA attended Take AIM (Active and Involved Members) Training in Oklahoma City. This conference, open to younger members of the organization, teaches students how to become more actively involved in their chapter and community.  Members attending were Meghan Bartnick, Dakota McCollum, Skyler Rodenberg and Rachael Evans.

FCCLA members Sarah Bradford and Kaitlyn Lemley carried out their project — No Buts! Get the Facts. Decide for Yourself. Live Your Life. — which was an anti-smoking project. Bradford and Lemley presented information about the effects of smoking as well as showing an educational video and playing a game called Smoking Prevention Bingo. More than 50 junior and senior students were reached through this project.

FCCLA members Jamie Black and Audra Goad carried out their project — Stalking: Know it, Name it, Stop it. Goad and Black presented information about stalking, how to avoid being stalked and what can be done about stalking. Presentations were given to four high school classes.

FCCLA members will compete in the District STAR events Wednesday in Enid. Members who will compete are Meghan Bartnick, Brenda Reim, Jaycee Throckmorton, Tim Vasquez, KayCee Foley, Jessica Camarena, Audra Goad, Jamie Black, Kaitlyn Lemley, Sarah Bradford and Allison Pruitt. Those who receive high scores will advance to the regional competition.

Drummond FCCLA is sponsoring a free CPR class for members of the Drummond community. The class will be held Nov. 9 beginning at 7 p.m. The class will be taught by Brenda Vasquez. For information, call 493-2271.
