Threats force school officials to briefly lockdown several school buildings

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

Several Enid Public Schools locations were under a brief lockdown mid-morning Wed-nesday after calls were received threatening individual students.

“We received phone calls at three school sites — Lincoln Academy, Enid High School and Carver Center — where the caller threatened individual students, based on a situation that occurred outside the school day,” said Amber Graham Fitzgerald, school and community relations di-rector.

Begin-ning about 11:20 a.m., those schools were put on temporary lockdown.

Enid Police Department and campus police responded to the schools, and EPD kept a presence at each school throughout the rest of the day. Fitzgerald said Emerson Junior High School also locked its doors during the day due to its proximity to Lincoln Academy. No problems were reported at any of the schools.

“The threats are under investigation by the Enid Police Department and Enid Public Schools Police De-partment, and both agencies will continue to closely monitor the situations at each school,” Fitzgerald said. “Student safety is our No. 1 priority, and that fact will never change.

“We work year-round with local emergency officials to ensure that our response plan is effective.”

She said the schools called all parents of students involved and parents decided whether or not to pick up their children from school.
