Roman Nose State Park gives helping hand to United Way

United Way agencies around Enid have benefited from Roman Nose State Park’s remodeling the lodge.

Agencies have received donations from Roman Nose, including stoves, refrigerators and furniture.

“Roman Nose is refurbishing the lodge out there, and they donated a lot of the old equipment to the United Way agencies,” said Sean Byrne, executive director of United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma. “It is very nice stuff, freezers, furniture, convection ovens. It isn’t new but is usable, and instead of throwing it away the agencies were able to put it to use in the community.”

Organizations receiving donations include Cimarron Council Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma and Garfield County Child Advocacy Council.

United Way also is getting ready to wrap up its campaign, and Byrne encouraged everyone to get pledges in.

“The final report luncheon in Nov. 13 at the YMCA. We will still be collecting donations but we would like as much in as we can in by then,” she aid. “Many businesses are still conducting campaigns. We want them to continue but encourage their employees to get their pledges in.”

United Way wants to have most of the pledges in by the final report luncheon, he said, but doesn’t want anyone to feel rushed.

“We need as much participation as possible,” he said. “We are doing a balancing act between needing everything in and not wanting to rush anyone. We don’t want anyone to stop early before they have everything.

“If people are not doing a campaign at their work, they can donate directly to the United Way. They can call us, donate online or download a pledge card. This our first year to have it online.”

Byrne said he hopes the online option will get people more people involved.
