Hospice Fall Book Sale slated Friday, Saturday

By Kasey Fowler, Staff Writer

“Any kind of book you want to read, we have it.”

Hospice Circle of Love’s Fall Book Sale will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

This is about the 20th year for the book sale, and it has gotten bigger every year, according to Hospice Circle of Love volunteer Gerry Lou Bliss.

“We have probably got more book than the last sale in April,” said Bliss, “This is probably the most books ever.”

The spring book sale brought in the most money in the history of the event, $6,795.

Volunteers are setting up the sale this week, but the sorting begins as soon as the books come in.

“They are sorted all year long as they come in. It is a lot of work to put them all out,” said Bliss, “There are almost too many books for this space.”

Thousands of books are available, including mysteries, self-help, children’s books, cookbooks, Westerns and romance novels.

“You just never know what people will be interested in,” said Bliss, “If you want it, we probably have it.”

Bliss said there are several interesting additions to the sale this year.

“There are some books a collector gave us that date back to the ’30s and ’40s,” said Bliss.

There also is a set of encyclopedia-type books on World War II, according to Bliss.

Hardbacks sell for $1 and paperbacks for 50 cents.

Julie Nelson, marketing director for Hospice Circle of Love, said the fundraiser is for the patients.

“It really is a wonderful thing,” said Nelson, “It is a wonderful fundraiser. All proceeds go to help hospice patients.”

The proceeds will be used to serve the organization’s free patients or those who do not have Medicare or insurance benefits to pay for hospice care.

The sale will be held in the north building at the Hospice Circle of Love office, 314 S. Third.

Donations still are being accepted and can be dropped off at the Hospice Circle of Love office.
