Cimarron FFA chapter participates in fair

Cimarron FFA Chapter recently participated in the Major County Fair in Fairview. Zack Crow placed 2nd with his Angus steer; Zach Novosad placed 2nd and 3rd with his sheep; Ryan Coontz had the champion Yorkshire pig and placed 1st with his crossbred; Cody Coontz had the champion Spot and a class-winning Crossbred; Stetson DeHaas received 1st and 2nd with his breeding gilts; Jill Mencke placed 2nd and 3rd with her market wether goats; Kaylen Gregory had the champion commercial heifer; Conner Gregory placed 2nd with his prospect steer.

The new employees and teachers at Cimarron Public Schools for the 2008-09 school year are: Ken Jones, junior high and high school baseball; Darla Adkisson, day elementary special education; Christy Wallace, day pre-kindergarten teacher, fifth- grade English, sixth- and seventh-grade reading; Mela-nie Powers, teacher aide; and Janet Schafnitt, teacher aide.

Changes in the elementary teaching assignments are: Stacie Schultz, first grade; Judy Ensminger, second grade; Becky Burt, third grade; and Kimberly Savage, fourth grade.

Cimarron FFA and 4-H Livestock Judging Teams participated in the fair. In the Junior FFA Division, Cimarron won 1st, 2nd and 3rd and had the top three individuals. The champion team included: 1st-high individual, Lauren Brakhage and 2nd-high individual, Hayley Pitts, Kelsey Pettus and Christian Gunning. The 2nd-place team included: Zach Newell, Erick Frey and Alexander Aguilar. The 3rd- place team included: Caitlin Theilen, Dalton Theilen, Cory Fitzsimmons and 3rd high individual, Kaylen Gregory. Members of the 2nd-place 4-H team included Cammi Gregory, Ashley Bode, Jill Mencke and 2nd-high individual, Grant Gregory. Other FFA and 4-H members participating in the livestock judging contest were: Blade Bode, Zack Crow, Tyler Leachman, Will Nance, Daniel Riley, Wes Stebbins, Ben Koehn, Zach Novosad, Justin Smith, Conner Gregory, Mason Bode, Ami Adkisson, Ryan Coontz, Stetson DeHaas, Austin Simunek, Eric McClure, Levi Duncan, Travis Grubb, Josh Perry, David Hadley, Trenton Thomas and Shani Brown.

There will be a meeting of the newly formed Ag Boosters at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Cimarron cafeteria. Officers will be elected and plans will be made for the year’s events and fundraisers. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.

Miss Cimarron Pageant was held Sept. 19. The emcee for the evening was the former 2005 Miss Cimarron and the current Miss Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Ashlynn Frey. The winners were: Miss Cimarron 2008 — Hannah Brien; Miss Cimarron High 2009 — Hannah Brien; Miss Photogenic — Hannah Brien; Miss 1st Runner-up — Jayci Wehrenberg; Miss Talent winner — Jayci Wehrenberg; Miss 2nd Runner-up — Rachel Williams; Miss Congeniality — Charli Mathis.

The winners of the Junior Miss Cimarron were: Jr. Miss Cimarron 2008 — Victoria Kimbrell; Jr. Miss Cimarron 1st Runner-up — Carmen Lyon; Jr. Miss Cimarron 2nd Runner-up — Emily Tydings; Jr. Miss Cimarron Photogenic — Carmen Lyon; Jr. Miss Cimarron Talent — Victoria Kimbrell; Jr. Miss Cimarron Congeniality — Carmen Lyon.

Cimarron Days parade was held Sept. 20. Float winners were awarded prizes by Lahoma Lions Club with 1st place $75, 2nd place $50 and 3rd place $25. The theme for floats was Favorite Movies. Float winners were: 1st place, junior class of Cimarron for “Wizard of Oz”; 2nd place, Boy Scout Troop 26 Cimarron/Drummond for “Band of Brothers”; 3rd place, Coulten Cue with “Hurray for Hollywood.”

Four-wheelers and bicycle winners were: 1st place, Reagan Walker; 2nd place, Josh Wisel, Natilie Wisel Young and Nakita Wisel Young; 3rd place, Baylin Bode.

Cimarron Days stock show winners from Cimarron were: Grand Market Lamb, Justin Smith; Reserve Grand Market Lamb, Zach Novasad; Junior Swine Showmanship, Ryan Coontz; Senior Sheep Showmanship, Justin Smith; and Junior Goat Showmanship, Jill Mencke.

Zion Lutheran Church Youth Group elected officers for 2008-09 were: Kristen Hobson, president; Kelsey Pettus, vice president; Emily Tydings, secretary; and Lauren Brakhage, reporter. The youth meet on the first Sunday of each month immediately following church and on the third Sunday of each month at 6 p.m.



Church



Zion Lutheran Church has started the R.O.C.K. after-school program, 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays (only on days there is school), for children in grades first through sixth. There will be adults and helpers who will be assisting with homework, playing games, watching movies, serving snacks and monitoring the children as they enjoy playing outside and inside the church.
