Okeene Whippets claim victory at homecoming game

Okeene Whippets beat Chisholm Longhorns 55-0 during the homecoming game Sept. 19. Morgan Kubat was crowned homecoming queen by captain Dalton Brewer. Other royalty included Jacob Parrish, Jennifer Lubbers, Jordan Chance, Caleb Westfahl, Karlee Brownlee, Ryan Long, Brock Wardlaw, Matt Benham, Karlee Turham and Ryan Haffner.

Okeene High School’s speech department will present a one-act play and dessert theater. The play “Lend Me a Tenor” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. today in the auditorium. Admisssion is $5. After the play will be a cheescake and dessert auction. Proceeds benefit the speech students with props and upcoming competitions. The event is under the direction of Ginny Dobrinski.

The Quarterback Club will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Friday’s football game is against Turpin at 7:30 p.m. The Mini Cheer Camp will perform the halftime dance.

FCCLA will host its annual fall dinner 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in the school cafeteria. The dinner includes ham, turkey and dressing. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-12, free for children 3 and younger. Carryouts will be available.

Jill Boeckman was crowned Miss Whea Esta at the recent Whea Esta Queen Pageant. First runner-up was Riley Longacre and second runner-up was Jena Holliday. Kylie Schiska won the people’s choice, and Allison Fischer won miss congeniality. Other candidates included Katy Hart, Jessica Parrish, Karlee Turnham, Mareicke Voigt, Tabbitha Fisher and Karlee Brownlee.
