Several local agencies are organizing relief efforts to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. They are listed here. Go online to 1800SalArmy.org or call (800) 725-2769.

- Cimarron Valley of American Red Cross: Accepting financial donations. Donations may be dropped off or mailed to 1023 W. Elm, Enid, OK 73701. Call 237-5994.

- Aaron's, 2420 W. Garriott: Accepting donations of non-perishable food items. Items may be dropped off during regular business hours.

- Learning Tree Preschool and First Church kids: Collecting cotton work gloves as a Helping Hands project for hurricane victims. Gloves can be dropped off at First United Methodist Church, 401 W. Randolph, or at Nicholas Real Estate, 900 W. Maple.

- Cherokee Manor Nursing Home, Cherokee: Accepting donations to provide bandages, blankets, medical supplies and other essential nursing home supplies to elderly nursing home residents affected by Hurricane Katrina. Call (580) 596-2141.

- Life Emergency Medical Service, 302 W. Maple: An official collection point for American Red Cross donations, contributions may be dropped off at the Life EMS communication center 24 hours a day. Items needed include non-perishable food, toiletries, diapers and money. Red Cross officials are asking people to refrain from donating clothes at this time.

- Air Force Aid Society: The group has established a nationwide relief fund to help Air Force families affected by the hurricane. Credit card donations can by made by calling (800) 769-8951 or (703) 607-3073 or by going online at www.afas.org.

- Hope Outreach, 215 S. Van Buren, teaming with Enid businesses: Representatives are collecting items to be sent to Northern Louisiana Area Health Education Center in Shreveport for distribution to hurricane victims. Items requested are diapers, formula, bottled water, bedding, towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shoes, personal hygiene items and feminine hygiene products. Groendyke Transport will provide a driver when the trailer is filled.

Hope Outreach also has set up a disaster relief fund in conjunction with Trinity Christian Community in New Orleans. Tax-deductible checks may be made to Hope Outreach, with a note designating funds for New Orleans Disaster Relief Fund. Send to Hope Outreach, P.O. Box 1067, Enid, OK 73702-1067. Money will go to Trinity Christian Community.

- Alva Ministerial Alliance, in cooperation with community leaders and agencies: Officials are making plans to receive as many as 10 families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. AMA is working to provide housing, food and clothing for up to a year, as well as offer other necessary services, such as health care, counseling, etc. People interested in helping may call Sean Evans, pastor of First Christian Church in Alva, at (580) 327-0194 or Judye Pistole, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Alva and president of AMA, at (580) 327-3895.

- Jumbo Foods: Shoppers at Jumbo Foods can help hurricane relief efforts by making donations using slips provided at cash registers at both Jumbo Foods locations through Oct 1. Customers can donate any amount to the relief effort, and donations will be added to grocery register receipts. All proceeds raised will go directly to American Red Cross.

- World Harvest Church, 210 E. Maple: The church is collecting school supplies for children staying at Camp Gruber near Muskogee. Items needed include loose leaf paper, spiral notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, map pencils, blunt tip scissors, rulers, glue and backpacks. Financial donations also will be accepted. Call pastor Brad Mendenhall or Kim Baugh at the church, 234-4474.

- Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway: The church is collecting items to be sent to Church World Service to be distributed to displaced persons. Last year the church made 83 health kits, which were distributed after the tsunami, and the goal is to at least double that for hurricane relief. Items needed for each health kit are one small towel, one wash cloth, a bar of soap, a comb, a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste, or $12 will buy one kit and the church will purchase items. Collection will continue until mid-October. Call Mary Johnson, 234-8322, for information.

- Curves: The fitness organization is matching hurricane relief fund donations up to $1,000 per franchise location. Contributors can donate money at Curves of Enid, 523 S. Cleveland, before Oct. 24. All donations will be forwarded to Curves headquarters, where the funds will be matched. For information, call Curves of Enid at 234-3366.

- Dog-A-Licious Barkery: The store, 1012 W. Hite on south side of Van Buren Square, is accepting donations for the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina. Items sought include pet food, blankets, towels, leashes, collars, water and food bowls, pet carriers and harnesses. All donations will be given to the Northern Oklahoma College pet supply drive and will then be taken to an SPCA shelter in Louisiana or Texas. Items will be collected through Dec. 1. - StarTek is implementing a payroll deduction program so employees can donate money to the Red Cross through the month of October.
