Service notes for 9/20/09

Griffing

Jesse James Griffing is a Sept. 3, 2009, graduate of the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

He is a graduate of Pond Creek-Hunter High School and is the son of David and Christi Griffing, Pond Creek.



Parks

Enid National Guardsman Austin K. Parks will leave Sept. 29 for an 18-week Advanced Individual Training school at Fort Huachuca, Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Parks is the son of Chuck and Carol Dunnam, of Enid. He is the grandson of Brent and Betty Parks, of Nash, and Milly Jones, of Enid.

He joined the National Guard on Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, 2007. After his junior year at Enid High School he was sent to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., for basic training.

He graduated from EHS in May 2009. He plans to attend Oklahoma State University next year and study to become a firefighter/medic.



Carpenter

Navy Seaman Rebecca S. Carpenter, daughter of Robin L. Kramer, of Vancouver, Wash., and Shawn Carpenter, of Enid, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Carpenter completed a variety of training, including classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis also was placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.

Carpenter is a 2007 graduate of North Chicago (Ill.) Community High School.



Farrar
