Support group available for those affected by cancer

A newly formed, spiritually based community cancer support group will meet Thursday at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway, in the multi-purpose room.
There will be two meeting times, 4-5 p.m and 5:30-6:30 p.m. The meeting will focus on providing and finding support for cancer patients and their families.
Future meetings tentatively will be on the third Thursday of each month in the same location. October will offer education on breast cancer and November will offer education on lung cancer.
Cancer patients, cancer survivors, friends and family members are invited to participate.

Blood drive slated at Willow Plaza on Saturday

Willow Plaza shopping center and Northwest Oklahoma Blood Institute will have a blood drive 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The center is at 2311 W. Willow.
Every donor will receive a University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University T-shirt, Members for Life points for use in the Oklahoma Blood Institute online store and free health check screenings. One donor will win two tickets to the Nov. 2 NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway, including charter bus transportation.

Health Department offering diabetes education program

Garfield County Health Department will offer a diabetes education program Sept. 29.
The program will be 2-4 p.m. at the health department, 2501 Mercer Drive. It is free.
Topics discussed will include diabetes nutrition, meal planning and blood glucose monitoring. Free glucometers will be provided while supplies last.
