Tractors, bee top Fairview show

By Jim Wilkinson, Fairview correspondent

This is the 19th year of the Two-Cylinder Tractor Show and the 24th year of the Threshing Bee, sponsored by Major County Historical Society. The events will run through Sept. 25 and will include a special church service in the old pioneer church brought from Ames.

Society board member Ray Grebs said there will be several new features of the show this year. For one, they will have a Babbit bearing pouring exhibition the morning of Sept. 26. The bearings will be used on some of the machines.

There will be a raffle of a 1939 Allis Chalmers tracto, a raffle of a John Deere quilt and a dutch oven cook-off. The old Orient train engine will be on display, and plans are in the works to create a railroad museum around it.

School children will have special access to the grounds Sept. 25 as area schools attend to see the parade, tractor pulls, threshing and other demonstrations. A mock land run is planned for noon Sept. 25.

All tractor restorers are urged to bring their tractor to the show at no charge and participate in events of their choice, said board member James Wedel. Tractor demos and pulls will be held each afternoon. This year the feature tractor of the show is the John Deere R model, the last in the letter series by John Deere.
