Lady Whippets awarded state championship rings

Okeene High School’s girls track team, the 2008 state champions, were presented with their state rings at an awards assembly.

The Lady Whippets have won this honor four years in a row. Team members include Latisha Leal, Raechyl Nault, Jordan Nault, Autumn Hoffman, Karlee Brownlee, Jessica Parrish, Jessica Wood, Kylie Schiska, Amy Treece, Jaimie Nault, Meghan Dixon, Josie Pauls, Tabbitha Fisher, Taylor Fisher, Jill Boeckman, Kassidy Jo Nelson, Tia Shellabarger, Morgan Kubat and Whitney Day. Coaches are Mike Jinkens, Jeff Wardlaw and Tony Shellabarger.



Okeene alumni reunion will be this weekend. A music group made up of members of the class of 1978 will make its debut at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the high school auditorium. Members of the group providing entertainment will be Myra Emmons Davidson, Kim Westfahl Jech, Connie Dobrinski Williams, Kim Baker Whitesell, Ginger Gernet Tate and Sherry Osmus Damron. They will be under the direction of Gregg Boggs.



Candy Jones, a recent graduate of Okeene High School, has been awarded the Lindsay Scholarship to attend Northwestern Oklahoma State University for the 2008-09 academic year.



There will be no school Monday.



A 4-H meeting will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school cafeteria.



Juniors and seniors will meet with Jostens at 11:50 a.m. Wedneday at the school.



The Quaterback Club will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the school.



School board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school.



The first-grade class will host a Grandparents’ Tea at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in the school cafeteria.



The Partner For Kids Program, sponsored by Pioneer Telephone Cooperative, Pioneer Cellular and Oklahoma Department of Human Services, provided more than 2,700 back-to-school supplies.

Gracie Jordan, Okeene, was the winner of the gift bag filled with school supplies given away at the local Pioneer Telephone office.



Okeene Junior High School cheerleaders attended Camp Redlands in Stillwater, where they participated with cheers, chants, dances, stunts and did a rope course for additional team building. Cheerleaders attending were Taylor Osmus, Jill Nault, Ronnie Sue Root, Allison Winstead, Jacke Parrish and Shelby Dobrinski.



Community

Music Ambassadors are hosting a dinner 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the school cafeteria. The menu includes roast beef and all the trimmings.



The second annual Chance Fisher benefit will be Saturday at Okeene Whippet Stadium.



Weston Waldrep, Okeene, won his first all-around title at Cherokee Junior Rodeo in the 5 and under age group. Waldrep competed in five events. He is the son of Suzie Waldrep and Tom Evans and the grandson of David Felder and Sandy Felder, all of Okeene.

 

Church

Geneva Scheffe has been selected as 2008 Outstanding Laywoman for Oklahoma Association of the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference of the United Church of Christ.

This recognition is for a woman who donates time to the local church, her community and her association.

Scheffe is a member of St. John’s Church of Christ, Okeene.
