Man arrested in credit card theft

Enid police have arrested a man accused of using stolen credit cards after a surveillance photo was published in the News & Eagle.

Jeffrey Lynn Bennett Jr., 28, was arrested Friday after he was identified by several residents as the suspect in the surveillance photo.

“We received several calls from the public who identified Bennett as being the suspect using the stolen credit card,” said Enid Police Department Capt. Dean Grassino.

Bennett left the city after seeing his picture in the News & Eagle, Grassino said. Detectives received information Friday he had returned to Enid, Grassino said, and police began surveillance.

Detectives found Bennett, who had attempted to change his appearance by shaving his head and cutting his mustache, at a local fast food restaurant, Grassino said, and arrested him on two complaints of unauthorized use of a credit card and two complaints of possession of a stolen credit card.

Bennett also had an outstanding felony warrant for failure to pay from Tillman County for two previous drug convictions and receiving a 10-year sentence, with nine years suspended, Grassino said.

The theft occurred Aug. 1 when a car parked at Scooter’s was burglarized. Grassino said crimes like this are difficult to solve without the help of residents.

“Once again, we want to thank the Enid News and the public for their help on identifying this suspect,” said Grassino.
