Chisholm High finishes remodeling science labs

Chisholm High School just has a few finishing touches to put on its new science labs, which were built thanks to a 2006 bond issue.

“We just finished them,” said Chisholm Superintendent Roydon Tilley, “actually really about a week ago. We still have a few minor touch-ups.”

The science labs are part of a newly converted space, which also includes chemical storage space as well as several classrooms.

“It used to be one big room,” said Tilley. “It used to be the band room.”

The remodeled space is not only equipped with all the necessities needed in a science lab but is now up to current coding laws and soon will be getting SMARTBoards.

“And, we have all the safety equipment you’re supposed to have,” said Tilley.

The 2006 $3 million bond issue also paid for a multi-purpose facility at the middle school, which includes a cafeteria, a band room, a gymnasium and performance stage.

New technology also was purchased with the bond money. A new computer lab with 100 new computers, as well as software updates, was created to help keep the school up with the times in the world of technology.

Tilley said keeping up with technology is “a challenge for every school” because of the fast pace of the field.

The new science labs are ready for student use and Tilley is grateful students have a new facility in which to learn.

“The patrons were really good about supporting the bond issue,” said Tilley. “We’ve long needed some of these things.”
