Free-market grassroots group to offer training seminar Friday

The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity Foundation will offer a free training seminar Friday, hosted by Garfield County Republican Women.

The workshop will highlight the effectiveness of grassroots work on fiscal policy issues in Oklahoma and around the nation, said Stuart Jolly, director of Americans for Prosperity Foundation-Oklahoma and a retired Army lieutenant colonel.

The workshop will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Gantz Center on the Northern Oklahoma College Enid campus. For lunch reservations or information, call 233-3788.

AFPF also will unveil its 2009 policy initiatives, which include expanding government transparency to include taxpayer-funded lobbying; the effects on the economy from the U.S. Senate’s cap-and-trade bill, which concerns carbon emissions; and the benefits a system of school choice would bring to Oklahoma.

The workshop precedes AFP-Oklahoma’s four Congressional “Carbon Credit” Tour stops around the state this month.

“All five of Oklahoma’s congressional delegation were invited to speak at these AFP events, discussing the carbon credit schemes currently being debated in Congress,” Jolly said. “The facts of this bill are scary, but reality will be scarier if it passes. The cap-and-trade bill will be discussed at the Enid meeting, but come hear what our representatives have to say about it.”

For information, go to the AFPF Web site, www.americansfor prosperity.org.
