Enid man charged in credit card theft

By Cass Rains, Staff Writer

An Enid man has been charged with two felonies in two separate incidents for allegedly breaking into a car and using a stolen credit card to make purchases at area businesses.

William Troy Huckabee, 35, was arraigned Friday morning on counts of second-degree burglary to an automobile and possession of a credit card belonging to another.

The burglary charge is punishable by two to seven years imprisonment. The credit card charge is punishable by up to three years in prison, up to a $3,000 fine or both.

According to an affidavit filed with the burglary charge, Enid police received a report from a woman who said her car had been broken into April 1 while it was parked in the 400 block of South Grand.

Police spoke with a man who said he saw Huckabee riding a bike near the woman’s vehicle before opening the door and entering the vehicle. The man said Huckabee took a brown bag and began taking the contents.

The woman told police her son-in-law followed Hucka-bee from the 400 block of South Grand to 1407 W. Randolph, Huckabee’s home. When police spoke with Huckabee, he matched descriptions given by witnesses but denied entering the woman’s car.

On July 24, police received a report of larceny from a vehicle that occurred about 7:52 a.m., in which a satchel containing credit cards was taken from a vehicle, according to an affidavit.

When the victim called to cancel her credit cards she was told one of the cards had been used twice in Enid. A supplemental report taken later in the day showed the woman’s debit card had been used twice since it was stolen and another credit card had been used at an Enid business.

Police obtained video from two of the stores where the cards were used. One video showed a white male use a card to purchase a carton of Pall Mall Lights and a carton Marlboro cigarettes. Police released photos from the surveillance videos, which were printed in the Enid News & Eagle, and received several calls identifying the man in the video as Huckabee.

Police arrested Huckabee, and during an interview when Huckabee was shown photographs from the surveillance video he told police he wished to have an attorney.

On Thursday, police served a search warrant at Huckabee’s home and found a carton of Pall Mall Lights and several loose packages of cigarettes.

Huckabee’s bond were set at $6,000, and he was ordered to return to court Sept. 8 for a bond appearance.
