Incumbent John Enns wins District 41 primary

By Robert Barron, Staff Writer

State Rep. John Enns outpolled his Republican challenger Tuesday to earn the right to face an independent opponent in November’s general election.

With all precincts reporting, Enns, of Enid, received 2,220 votes, or 77 percent, to 661 for Dwain Jindra, of Kingfisher, in his bid for a second term in the state House.

Enns was elated by his victory and thanked voters who supported him.

“That lets me know they have confidence in me and want me to continue working for them at the Capitol,” Enns said. “But it doesn’t stop here. We have a general election coming up and we need to continue working and working hard.”

Enns faces Lahoma resident Scott Cooper in the Nov. 4 general election.

Enns thought his most important efforts during the past legislative session were passing the agribility bill that helps provide rehabilitation for disabled farmers. Enns himself is disabled. He also authored the Adult Stem Cell Cures and Treatments Act. Next session he will push for funding for those bills.

District 41 includes parts of Garfield, Kingfisher, Canadian and Oklahoma counties.

The House District 41 race was one of three state legislative races in northwest Okla-homa.

In the House District 59 Republican primary, Kingfish-er resident Mike Sanders nearly won the nomination outright but will face Chris Cameron, also of Kingfisher, in the Aug. 26 runoff.

With all precincts in, Sanders polled 1,888 votes, or 49.6 percent. Cameron re-ceived 1,332 votes, or 35 percent, while Tim R. Riddle, of Hennessey, received 586 votes, or 15.4 percent.

The winner of the Repub-lican runoff will face Democrat Donald Edward Russell, of Hennessey, in the Nov. 4 general election. The candidates are vying to replace former state Rep. Rob Johnson, R-Kingfisher, who decided not to run for re-election and lost in the Republican primary for a seat on the Oklahoma Corpor-ation Commission.

District 59 includes parts of Blaine, Canadian, Dewey, Kingfisher, Major and Wood-ward counties.

In the House District 57 race, Perry Adams, of Custer City, will be the Democratic nominee. He defeated Jared Deck, of Thomas, 1,560-1,494.

Adams’ opponent has yet to be decided.

There were four Republican candidates, and Harold Wright, of Weatherford, and Lyle Miller, of Clinton, will square off in an Aug. 26 runoff.

Wright received the most votes, 991, while Miller was second with 591.

Also on Tuesday’s ballot were Warren Goldmann, of Weatherford, who had 407 votes, and Lynn Norman, of Clinton, who had 298 votes.

District 57 includes parts of Blaine, Canadian and Custer counties.

In the Senate District 27 Republican primary, Bryce Marlatt, of Woodward, receiv-ed 4,577 votes to 1,453 for Kevin Evans, also of Wood-ward.

Marlatt will face Democrat Bowdy E. Peach, of Moore-land, in the general election.

They are trying to succeed state Sen. Owen Laughlin, R-Woodward, who could not seek re-election because of the state 12-year term limit.

District 27 includes parts of Beaver, Blaine, Cimarron, Harper, Major, Texas, Woods and Woodward counties.
