Kaiser takes oath as C-D board treasurer

Covington-Douglas Board of Education met July 6, with Terry Kaiser taking the oath as treasurer.

In other action, the board:

• Approved a $600 contract for asbestos inspections.

• Voted to take bids for an agriculture education facility.

• Declared the old football scoreboard as surplus.

• Voted to increase substitute teacher pay scale to $55 a day for non-certified personnel and $65 a day for certified.

• Hired William Moon as a part-time temporary counselor for 2009-10 school year; hired Dylan Sterling and Ben Vanosdol as part-time temporary summer maintenance personnel; and hired Van Williams as a part-time janitor/bus driver for the 2009-10 school year.

Enrollment at Coving-ton-Douglas will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 5; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 6; and 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 7.

First day of school will be Aug. 13.

High school fastpitch softball begins at 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at home against Medford.



Church

First Baptist Church took 35 students and eight sponsors to Falls Creek Church Camp near Davis the week of July 13. The group returned home July 18. The church had an all-church breakfast July 19 to welcome the Falls Creek group back.

Campers presented the morning worship service for the congregation. Sponsors for the camp were the Rev. Jeff and Cara Jackson, Matt and Ali Bolz, Mike Bolz, Brenda Schram, Diana Millsap and Carolyn Peacock.
