Cimarron seniors earn scholarships

Cimarron Public Schools seniors last school year received $239,521 in scholarships to continue their education.
Receiving offers were:
• Cortney Brakhage — Northwestern Oklahoma State University elementary/early childhood education, Oklahoma Academic Scholars, NWOSU Freshman Incentive, NWOSU Ranger Preview award, Oklahoma Regent Scholar Award, Oklahoma State University Academic Excellence Scho-larship; OSU President’s Leadership Council scholarship, Buddy Husted Memorial Scholarship, Keagan Booze/David Stapp Memorial Band Scholarship and awards for placing second in Enid Elks Lodge essay competition and Student of the Month scholarship from Lahoma Lions Club.
• Hollie Detrick — Oklahoma State University scholarship for ag economics/accounting, Oklahoma Youth Expo/Farm Credit Scholarship, OSU Academic Excellence Scholarship, Joseph Fleming Memorial Freshman Scholarship, OSU Cowboy Covenant Scholar-ship, Ames Masonic Lodge Scholarship, Cherokee Strip Chapter of OSU Alumni Association Scholarship, Major County Farmers Union Scholarship and Major County HCE Scholarship.

• Derick Jantz — Redlands Community College Business Administration Scholarship, NWOSU Ran-ger Preview Scholarship, NWOSU Freshman Aca-demic Scholarship, Redlands Community College Athletic Scholarship and Cimarron Faculty Scholarship. He signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Redlands.
• Ross Mencke — OSU Ag Education Scholarship, Ames Masonic Lodge Scholarship, Cherokee Strip Chapter of the OSU Alumni Association Scholarship, Great Plains Communication Scholarship, Buddy Husted Memorial Scholarship, Keagan Booze/David Stapp Memorial Band Scholarship and Great Plains Co-op FFA Scholarship.
• Zac Nakvinda — Frank Phillips Junior College Petroleum Engineering Scholarship, NWOSU Ran-ger Preview Scholarship, NWOSU Freshman Aca--demic Scholarship, Frank Phillips Junior College Baseball Scholarship, Frank Phillips College Access Scholarship and Vernon Faulkner Inc. Scholarship. He signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Frank Phillips Junior College.
• Crystell O’Quinn — NOC Enid Nursing Pre-Medicine Scholarship, NOC Freshman Regents Scholar-ship and NWOSU Freshman Incentive Scholarship.
• Andrew Pettus — UCO Computer Science Scholar-ship, UCO Tuition Waiver Scholarship and Regents Baccalaureate Scholarship.
• Erin Roush — NOC Tonkawa Health and Physical Education Scholarship, NWOSU Ranger Preview Scholarship, NWOSU Freshman Incentive Scholarship, NOC Tonkawa Basketball Scholarship and Keagan Booze/David Stapp Memorial Band Scholarship. She signed a letter of intent to play basketball at NOC Tonkawa.
• Curtis Simmons — Murray State College Chemistry Pre-Medicine Scholarship, Southwestern Oklahoma State University Residence Hall Scholarship, St. Mary’s Volunteers’ Scholarship and Murray State College/President’s Scholars Program Scholar-ship. He signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Murray State.
• Ben Waite — Autry Technology Center Diesel Mechanics 13th Year Scholarship.
• Kayla Whitten — Autry Tech Dental Assistant Scholarship, Ames Masonic Lodge Scholarship, Ameri-Corps Scholarship and Autry 13th Year Scholarship.
• Sarah Weins — Autry Tech 13th Year Scholarship and Great Plains Co-op FCCLA Scholarship.

Three teachers retired from Cimarron Public Schools.
Shannon Kuhnemund retired after teaching 32 years at Dover, Drummond and Lahoma.
Doug Crawford retired completely after teaching 31 years at Ames and Cimarron. He semi-retired three years ago to just coach junior high and high school baseball.
Sarah Reames, first-grade teacher, retired after 25 years. She taught seven years at Fairview, then 18 years at Ames and Cimarron.

Cimarron 2008-09 cheerleaders attended cheerleading camp at Mooreland June 2-3. Attending were Brooke Massey, Rachel Ford, Rachel Williams, Jordan Cokeley, Hannah Brien, Sarah Mayberry, Laura Schultz, Emily Tydings, Cherokee Bode, Jessica Heinen, Jade Grisham, Carmon Lyon and Stephanie Milner. Cheer-leading sponsors Lori Tydings and Rita McManus also attended.
