Carrier man charged after 3-hour standoff

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

A 62-year-old Carrier man was charged Friday with a felony firearm violation following his arrest after a three-hour standoff with area law enforcement officers Wednesday night.

Steven Lee Oller faces a felony charge of discharging a firearm into a dwelling Friday, which is punishable by not less than two years and no more than 20 years in prison.

Oller is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond and was ordered to return to court Aug. 18 for a bond appearance.

According to an affidavit filed with the case, Oller’s 37-year-old son, Dustin, had contacted Garfield County Sheriff’s Office about 9:40 p.m. reporting at least two shots fired at Oller’s home, 8600 Carrier Road. He told deputies his father had fired the shots while the two were having an argument.

Deputies also were told by Oller’s son there were multiple firearms in the house and Oller was intoxicated, according to the affidavit. He son said he had been chased out of the house by his father, who had fired a shot into the ceiling and fired a shot into the air after chasing him outside, according to the affidavit.

The son told deputies his father had been drinking. Dustin Oller said he had come home from work and started eating supper before his father had eaten. The son also said his father had been drinking for several days, the affidavit states.

Sheriff’s deputies and members of Oklahoma Highway Patrol blocked Carrier Road at Imo and Boomer roads as other law enforcement officers arrived at Oller’s home. Deputies attempted to contact Oller over a loudspeaker before attempting to place a cell phone through an open window of a room where Oller was located.

When deputies attempted to deliver the phone, Oller began yelling at them and refused to follow their commands, according to the affidavit. As Oller yelled, two deputies entered his home through the front door and placed him under arrest.

Inside the home, four long guns were found hanging on nails behind the front door, according to the affidavit. A .357 revolver was found near Oller’s bed and a .22 caliber long rifle with a scope also were found, according to the document. The .357 revolver was loaded, with three empty shell casings in it. Two holes were found in the ceiling of the home, which appeared to be bullet holes, according to the affidavit.
