Shooting on South Madison leaves 1 injured early Tuesday

Enid police continue to investigate a shooting that happened early Tuesday morning in the 400 block of South Madison.

The victim, 49-year-old Christopher Edwards, was treated at an area hospital and released, police said.

Edwards reported to police he saw two men as he was walking north in the 400 block of South Madison between 4 and 4:22 a.m. Tuesday. He told police he heard a rustling noise behind him and saw two men, one wearing a bandana over his face. The men are described as two light-skinned males about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, one with short hair and wearing a light color shirt. The second man had longer hair pulled back in a pony tail and was wearing a dark-colored shirt.

Edwards said he continued to walk and when he turned again the man with a bandana over his face raised his arm and fired a handgun at him. He was struck once in the buttocks and walked to a nearby friend’s home, then was taken to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center for treatment.

Enid Police Department Capt. Dean Grassino said Edwards told police neither of the men said anything before firing about four shots. He said Edwards had just gotten off work, had been to Walgreens and was on his way to a friend’s home.

Police are processing evidence recovered from the scene, and detectives are reviewing witness statements.

According to online court records, Edwards pleaded guilty to a felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and destroying evidence Aug. 25, 20006, in Garfield County District Court.
