Boosters to host golf tournament

Covington-Douglas Public Schools Booster Club’s seventh annual golf tournament is Saturday at Rolling Meadows Golf Course. A putting contest starts at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 kicking off A and B Flights. There will be $5 Mulligans, trophies and door prizes. Cost of lunch is by donation. Cost is $40 per person or $160 per team. Make checks payable to C-D schools. For information, contact Jim Postier at (580) 864-7842.

Model T Car Club met at the home of Melvin and Jodene Carter June 17. The group was shown mechanics tools from the 1930s that belonged to Jodene Carter’s father, a service manager for a Chevrolet garage in Watonga for 28 years. The group also worked on old transmissions.

Covington-Douglas school board met June 2 and voted to purchase a bus from Ross Transportation. The board also adopted a policy designating royal blue as the graduation gown color. The board voted to participate in Center for Education’s basic legal services program for the 2008-09 year, accept the crossing guard contract and hire Jenni Lam as a physical therapy assistant and Melody Smith as elementary teacher on a temporary contract. The board also approved providing student alcohol and drug testing.

Youths from First Baptist Church are on a mission trip in Paradise, Texas, through Saturday working on homes and churches. Those participating include Katie Shelton, Holly Hobson, Brandon Neundorf, Colton Franke, Hunter Jackson and Taylor Johnson. Youth sponsor is Diana Millsap.

July 20 is Round Up Sunday at First Baptist Church. The church is striving for high Sunday school attendance.

Covington United Methodist Church will hold vacation Bible school at 8:30 p.m. July 21-24 for children in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. A kick-off party will be 6 p.m. July 20. The VBS program will be July 25. The theme is “God’s Big Back Yard.”

St. John's Lutheran Church will hold vacation Bible school 6-8:30 p.m. July 28 through Aug. 1 for children ages 4 through sixth grade. The theme is “Power Lab, Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power.”
