Autry Tech students win state quiz bowl

Autry Technology Center’s respiratory therapy students are state champions.

The first-year medical students beat teams from across the state, including Tulsa Community College and Rose State College, along the way to their first-place finish in the academic quiz bowl. Most other teams had first- and second-year students. Because Autry’s program is in its first year, all Autry students are in their first year of the program. 

“Besides winning bragging rights for being best in the state, our students won a $4,000 award to help fund their attendance at the Association for Respiratory Care Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in December, where they will compete with teams from across the country,” said Deryl Gulliford, program director.

“We are proud of our champions. Respiratory therapy is a tough program and it’s an accomplishment for our students to win against teams from more established programs,” said Jim Grantz, clinical director. “Autry is proud to be training some of the best future respiratory therapists, many of whom will practice right here in our community.”
