8 felony charges dropped against Fairview women

By Cass Rains Staff Writer

FAIRVIEW — Eight felony charges filed against a Fairview mother for manufacturing an explosive device have been dropped by the Major County District Attorney’s Office.

Denise D. Nunn, 37, and her 17-year-old son were charged Feb. 22 with the felony counts after Fairview police were told by a 12-year-old he was given a pipe bomb by Nunn’s son. Her son, though, continues to face eight counts of manufacturing an explosive device. He will be prosecuted as a juvenile.

The teen allegedly was manufacturing the pipe bombs at his home. Police said he brought materials to Fairview High School so he could drill holes for fuses.

Nunn allegedly purchased the fuse cord and gunpowder for the teen, according to police reports. She told police the purchases were “only a science project.”

Police reports state the teenager started his attempt to build pipe bombs earlier in the year using pens and gunpowder, then graduated to the larger-sized pipe bombs police discovered.

Officers found seven active pipe bombs and three more in various stages of construction at the teen’s home.

Nunn’s attorney, Norman Lamb, did not return a call Monday seeking comment.
