Filing period begins

for Garber election



Candidates for mayor in Garber may file for office beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.

The incorrect period for filing was included in a story published in the Saturday News & Eagle.

Lue Ann Root, secretary of Garfield County Election Board, said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. July 1.

Declarations of candidacy will be accepted at the election board office, 903 Failing.

The seat will be filled during an Aug. 11 election.



Legal Aid will be

available on Thursday



Judy Clay, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma senior citizen’s paralegal, will be in Enid Thursday to meet with Garfield County seniors who need information on a legal matter or have questions.

She will be at Northern Oklahoma Development Authority, 2901 N. Van Buren, 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. The session is free. No appointment is necessary.

“Many seniors and those with hearing impairments prefer to discuss their problems in person, and meeting at NODA makes it easier to review legal documents,” Clay said.

Legal Aid is a nonprofit law firm providing civil legal services to low-income people and senior citizens and is funded through the federal Legal Services Corp., Oklahoma Bar Foundation, local area United Way agencies, NODA Area Agency on Aging, grants and gifts from individuals.

EPD report changed

A revised Enid Police Department accident report has changed the driver of a vehicle that backed over and killed an Enid woman June 6.

According to the revised report, Alvin F. Keesaman, 42, was pulling out of a driveway about 12:45 a.m. June 6 at 302 E. Ash and struck Linda J. Sneed, 48, who was behind the semi in the driveway.

The report lists Keesaman’s condition as “drinking — ability impaired.”

An initial report listed Sneed’s husband, Gary W. Sneed, 42, as the driver of the semi. He is listed as a passenger in the semi in the revised report.

Police have ruled the incident an accident.
