WildHorse Gang helps to move aluminum cans

Kremlin’s WildHorse Gang banded together with volunteers Thursday morning to move thousands of aluminum cans into a semi-trailer during the 12th annual Aluminum Can Round-Up.

WildHorse Gang members collect aluminum cans all year to be recycled and loaded them Thursday morning.

“All the proceeds go to the swimming pool,” said Gini Zaloudek, director of WildHorse Gang. “We probably have twice as many as we have had before.”

The event began as a way to help save the community swimming pool, she said. Now, proceeds go to the upkeep and improvement of Stewart Pool in Kremlin. Matching funds are raised to double the donation to the pool.

The collection of cans has expanded to include surrounding areas.

“We have them come from as far as Oklahoma City,” said Zaloudek. “Bulah Genaris and Dude Evans from Pond Creek collect cans for us all year and brought another load down to us today.”

This year Southside Recycling brought a semi-trailer to be filled with cans to be taken for recycling.

“Jim Holt with Southside Recycling buys the cans. He sent five of his guys and his truck out here. His family came out to help, too,” Zaloudek said.

About 20 kids volunteered their time to help, along with parents and other adult volunteers.

“The WildHorse Gang has about nine members. The rest just volunteered to come help. We do fundraising to give back to the community,” Zaloudek said. “Several adults also came out to help. We couldn’t do it with out them.”

The event was sponsored by Southside Recycling, Bank of Kremlin, McDonald’s, Jumbo Foods, Zaloudek Grain, F.W. Zaloudek Implement Co., Continental Resources, Security National Bank, Kremlin Welding, Farmers Grain Co., Faron Johnson CPA, Nuts About Racing, Skatetown, Putt Putt 4RKids, United Supermarket and CiCi’s Pizza.
