Truck roll-over accident closes highway

An accident involving a cement truck that rolled on U.S. 81 one and half miles north of Hennessey Thursday afternoon temporarily closed portions of the southbound lanes.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, an Enid Concrete truck, driven by Colin Kelley Coomes, 38, of Enid, was southbound on U.S. 81 when the vehicle drifted off the road to the left about 12:50 p.m. Coomes overcorrected, and the weight in the loaded truck shifting, causing it to roll one-quarter time into the median.

Coomes was taken to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center by Hennessey EMS and was admitted in good condition, according to OHP, with head, trunk and arm injuries. He was wearing his seat belt.

The southbound lanes of the highway were intermittently closed for two hours, with single lanes reopened as crews worked to remove the truck from the roadway. Both lanes reopened about 4:15 p.m., according to OHP.

The report listed inattention by the driver as the cause of the accident.
